Denis Duboule

Born in Geneva in 1955, Denis Duboule is French and Swiss. He is currently a professor of genetics at the University of Geneva where he heads the department of Genetics and Evolution and the Centre National de Compétence en Génétique. He is also a professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

Denis Duboule earned his PhD at the University of Geneva in 1984 and went on to work in the LGME laboratory headed by Professor Pierre Chambon in Strasbourg until 1988, when his research group moved to the Laboratoire Européen de Biologie Moléculaire (EMBL) in Heidelberg. In 1992, he was hired as a professor at the University of Geneva. Since 1985, his work has focused on the function and regulation of Hox genes during the development of animal vertebrae. Denis Duboule is also active in science politics and in communication with the general public.
