Jean-Luc Hervé

Jean-Luc Hervé studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris with Gérard Grisey (first prize in composition). His doctoral thesis in aesthetics as well as research carried out at IRCAM were the opportunity for him to reflect on his work as a composer and a residence at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto was a decisive turning point in his oeuvre. Ciels for orchestra won the Goffredo Petrassi award in 1997. In 2003, the DAAD invited him for a residency in Berlin. His albums have received the “coup de cœur " award from the Académie Charles-Cros. In 2004, he founded the Biotop(e) initiative with Thierry Blondeau and Oliver Schneller. A part of his work consists of concert-installations imagined for unique sites.
